Extended Beta Version 1.2.1

Please Note: Beta version is basically the same plugin as the stable version and only named so in order to facilitate ease of testing and removal without loosing your settings. So with that in mind, please do remember to deactivate Fourteen Extended first before activating the beta version if you are doing the test on the same/live site.

Beta version testing time is here again folks 🙂

Please find a copy of the latest version ready for testing and debugging.

In this version we have new options

  • For finer Featured content control – set number of posts for grid/slider plus switch between 3 and 4 column grid layout.
  • Option to set full width page to true full width by removing the left sidebar on per page basis.
  • Bug fix on full width images – confined to in content post thumbnails so as to not effect other areas like the sidebar.

Once again, thank you for using Fourteen Extended plugin and for your continual support and feedback.

Depending on feedback and if there are any bugs to fix or not the stable version 1.2.1 will go live between Wednesday and Friday.

  1. That is a great stuff. I get the fourteen extended plugin and now I’m going to update with this. By the way, can I resize one single page post like Zulf, but without removing the left column? Other words, change width post of one unique page .
    Thanks,

    1. Hi Joan,

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving feedback – its a great help to hear what you all want/need as well as know that things are working as they should 🙂

As for your question, at the moment that option is not in the plugin yet. Sounds like a good idea and great suggestion, so I’ll have to make sometime and explore that avenue to see what can be done.

      Regards,
      Zulf

    2. Yes, that would be great. I rather like the narrow columns, but when you try to add say a forum, that looks rather funny. But if we could change the content width of just that page…

  2. Hi Matt!

I can´t find any contact link, mail or so. Don´t know where to put this so I put it here!
When I´m logged in I have no access to forums. Just “Nothing found” and a search bar.
I wanted to respond on your latest comment in topic “colors”

    1. Hello Claes,

Site was under maintenance earlier on and with some changes permalinks had to be reset.

I’ve just re-tested the site and everything seems to be working as normal – please try again.

      Regards,
      Zulf

  3. Sorry!

I tried to reach Fourteen Extended. Nothing change.
When I´m not logged in it works…….. but then I can´t answer.

    regards Claes

    1. OK, that’s strange. Looks like my maintenance work has introduced a bug!

Let me take a look in to things and hopefully get it fixed asap. Taking a break for now but will be back in a few hours with feedback on this.

You can respond to the forum comment here if you wish 🙂

  4. Ok. Then I do……..

Yes. That´s exactly what I´m looking for. It would for sure be nice to be able to choose vice versa, more flexible. eg blog feed in slider /grid and featured content in slider/grid. Whatever you want!
    Looks really good!

    1. Cool. Glad you approve of the option.

Currently options are set for the blog feed as (1) Default look as it is at the moment or (2) Grid as in the demo linked to in the forum.

While putting it together I did have a look at the blog feed as a slider, didn’t look right to me and it had one major issue – pagination for sites with a lot of posts would be madness. What would be neat though is have the blog feed in a sliding grid i.e grid format with slide controls instead of pagination at the bottom of the feed.

I know that the slider script in its raw for form has the option to slide content in a grid form so its just a matter of figuring out how that would work with a stream of posts. If its at all possible then its an option for a future release – on the TODO list for now.

Back to the issue you were having with access – I had a look at the set up and logs and I can see that the fail is at the login point. could I ask you to reset your password here http://wpdefault.com/lostpassword/ and try again?

      Thanks,
      Zulf

      1. You might be interested to know that Jetpack now offers infinite scrolling posts so long as the footer has no widgets. See it work at helpfulcolin.com. I have your version 1.2.1 installed I changed from the old Side Blog to Twenty Fourrteen in February. I also have Fourteen Colors installed. Your plugin was usefull for some things but not everything. I have made manual adjustments to the code in the theme style.css and custom css to get my site where it is at the moment. I’m still not happy with all the white borders surrounding my content and under twitter buttons. Twenty Fourteen is certainly an improvement on what I had before but it’s got some way to go. Keep working on your plugin.

        1. Thanks for the heads up Colin – that is a neat option with Jetpack. Will be looking to test it out once I’ve freed some spare time from coding 🙂

True, there are still some shortfall with Fourteen Extended and not everything can be included in it – hence why the work on a complimentary child theme to further enhance the customization experience.

Keep the suggestions coming and many thanks for supporting my work.

          Regards,
          Zulf

  5. Hi Zulf!

First of all. I reset my password but it´s still not working for me. Weird I would say.

“What would be neat though is have the blog feed in a sliding grid i.e grid format with slide controls instead of pagination at the bottom of the feed.

Well, I think you are right about that. Begin without slider in grid content and then work on it……..

What about colors in new theme? As in Ridizain or as in Fourteenextnded?

    1. What about colors in new theme? As in Ridizain or as in Fourteenextnded?

I’ll be looking at colors for the theme and see what is the best way to do it – first thoughts were to port Ridizain’s color options to the plugin but that presents a “code bloat” issue. Going to look at porting them to the child theme instead just to keep things tidy 🙂

        1. Awesome 🙂

Child theme is ready for release – I’m currently stuck on giving it a decent name that does not clash/infringe on others as well as being meaningful enough without breaking the WordPress review guidelines.

Hope you’ve noticed that the color, font type and font size options have been released in a new plugin available in the WordPress repository – its available here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/styles-twentyfourteen/ – its an add on to the Styles plugin and I didn’t feel it wise to reinvent the wheel on the base code. Do try it out and let me know what your think please!

          Regards,
          Zulf.

          1. I downloaded your styles twenty fourteen plugin. It´s excellent. Awesome! Exactly what should be included in every theme released I think. 🙂

Decent name you said? Why not just call it Decent.

            Best regards and Cheers!
            Claes

  6. If I am logged in as a registerd user on this site I can no longer see the forums. If I log out, I can see the forums again. Either way wanted to post that I had a problem and solved it. If I set the option for featured images to stretch 100% (the only way I could get them to fill the space, even if they were sized correctly) I would get some images in posts stretching in size awkwardly. I finally narrowed the issue down to images in posts that were set to “full” size as opposed to medium or other. To fix, I edited fourteenxt-styles.php abd removed .site-content img.size-full from under if ( get_theme_mod( ‘fourteenxt_enable_image_width’ ) != 0 ) : ?> . Everything seems to work fine now.

    1. First of all my apologies for the issue on the forum – going to be working on fixing this as soon as possible. Looks like switching to a multi site has introduced some bugs on some plugins so need to start hunting for them.

Secondly thank you for sharing that work around – I thought I had adjusted that issues but I guess not correctly. Will revisit it for the next update and get it sorted.

      Regards,
      Zulf

          1. Nope. If I click on the forums drop menu or any of the sub items I get this:

            Not Found
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

          2. Thanks for checking and confirming.

Just run a whole lot of resets and reconfigurations to get things back to normal – I believe we are good now.

            Regards,
            Zulf

  7. OK guys, I think we are now back up and running with the forum.

If anyone is still experiencing access issues please let me know and I’ll further in to it.

    Regards,
    Zulf
